Job Description: Director, Translational Medicine (TM) Project Management

ROLE IMPERATIVES

  • This role is focused on providing effective/efficient project management of TM functions and teams.

  • The Head of TM Project Management will drive TM program management and accountable for standards and harmonized approaches across the division aligned with the TM strategy.

  • Experience leading and managing teams is required especially across cross-functional activities/team

  • Strong scientific background is a must and demonstrated ability to align divisional strategy to the TM operational and scientific priorities (objectives).

  • Support joint development teams across TM, especially Pharmacodiagnostics (PDx), effectively working with the team leads and TM Team project managers to ensure aligned development plans and coordinate execution

  • Sits in CNJ and will be a member of the TM, Discovery and Product Development (PD) S & O LT

ESSENTIAL LEADERSHIP CAPABILITIES

Strategy and Execution

  • Possesses strong skills in anticipating risks and identifying TM issues with the ability to troubleshoot and create solutions, balancing portfolio and asset needs.

  • Has experience translating strategy to actionable projects.

  • Partners with the Head of TM, Discovery, and PD S&O and TMLT members to align TM biomarker development and PDx strategy/execution.

Leadership and Matrix Management

  • Manages performance across the TM PM group, in collaboration with the TM leadersand TM project management roles.

  • Has experience leading project management and can partner well with key TMLT members

  • Ensures clear goals and performance standards are in place, provides feedback and coaching, and holds project managers accountable for key deliverables

  • Builds and manages relationships with key cross-matrix stakeholders. Demonstrates influence across TM and R&D functional leadership

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication

  • Drives the successful delivery of project objectives across TM by ensuring effective stakeholder management, alignment and business engagement, and provide guidance to staff and business leaders to improve project execution and remove barriers to successful execution.

  • Apply project management best practices across TM to include the PDx portfolio, aligned and integrated with Drug Development Project Management across the BMS asset portfolio

  • Facilitation and project management of all deliverables for TM programs, including:

  • Alignment of TM development strategies and execution across the R&D portfolio

  • Facilitate connectivity with early/late development & commercial project teams, governance and key functions

  • Support specific PDx Development programs for timelines, risk management, and milestones.

DESIRED BACKGROUND, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE

  • MS, MBA, PhD, PharmD, or other advanced degree in a physical or natural science with 10 or more years of experience in the translational medicine and/or pharmaceutical industry - Familiarity with biomarker and diagnostic development and commercialization is desirable.

  • Excellent oral and written skills is required

  • Project management experience is required with working knowledge across drug development process.

  • Experience in managing/leading divisional, matrixed, high performing teams in an ambiguous environment with frequently changing priorities.

  • Excellent cross functional communications skills and a decisive yet collaborative leadership style

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a matrix team across multiple disciplines internal and external to the organization, as well as efficient resource utilization in a multi-project environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully and effectively collaborate, cooperate and work across boundaries.

  • Proven agility in prioritizing and navigating competing demands.

  • Strong influencing/persuasive skills with a demonstrated ability to influence different styles and individuals at different levels in organization.
