Chemours Area Manager II in Deepwater, New Jersey

The Chemours Company headquartered in Wilmington, DE has an Area Manager II position available at the Chambers Works facility located in Deepwater, New Jersey. This is a highly visible, key role within the Company and the Operations function. This position will report to Performance Chemicals Unit Manager.

The Area Manager II is responsible for the safety, health, environmental commitments, production, cost, and maintenance of the Performance Chemicals – West (PC-West) manufacturing area which includes multiple high hazard processes. Leads improvement programs and initiatives and provides leadership and direction for the area. Ensures continuous and efficient production in desired quantity and quality, and/or effectively manages daily maintenance work and shutdowns. Interfaces with business leadership and supply chain for coordination of schedules and understanding of customer needs. Accountable for establishing and meeting fixed and variable cost objectives. Sets expectations for adherence to policies and procedures and safety standards. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of multiple high hazard processes. Manages quality, cost, resources and schedules. Typically provides leadership for more than forty direct and indirect reports.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Lead the operation of the PC West which includes multiple areas manufacturing fluorinated lubricants, monomers and polymers

  • Responsible for a 50 employee production team with a plant fixed cost budget of $25M and typical capital expenditures of $1M-$2M

  • Responsible for compliance with policies, procedures and safety standards related to Process Safety Management (PSM) involving low and high hazard processes

  • Provide direction to the maintenance and technical teams supporting PC-West

  • Ensure continuous and efficient production in desired quantity and quality

  • Interface with supply chain for coordination of production schedules and understanding of customer needs

  • Responsible for all Environmental, Safety, and Health aspects of the operation

  • Responsible for coordinating operations 24 hours a day

  • Lead the unit to set and meet cost, quality, reliability, and productivity objectives

  • Drive continuous improvement toward increased competitiveness

  • Manage personnel consistent with policies in a union environment

  • Develop individuals for future assignments

  • Create a safe and respectful work environment

  • Lead the organization by setting high standards and operational discipline


In order to be qualified for this role, you /must possess/ the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with minimum 5 years’ experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment or other technical field OR minimum 10 years’ operations experience including prior supervisory experience

  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and the ability to work with a diverse population of employees and contractors

  • Process Safety Management in High Hazard Process/Low Hazard Operations

  • Demonstrated understanding of safety procedures and corporate safety philosophy

  • Demonstrated capability to drive for results

  • Ability to assess and improve individual and group performance.

The following skill sets are /preferred/ by the business unit:

  • Previous line supervision experience in Operations

  • Experience driving Lean manufacturing principles and implementation of production systems

  • Six Sigma certification

  • Familiarity with the SAP/R3 module in finance/cost management

  • Familiarity with the Work Management Process (WMP)
